The Business of Achieving Your Mission.
The Social Outcomes Section details how the business will help the organization meet its mission and projects the extent of that impact. The Section will describe what you want to achieve and why you believe these outcomes will be achieved. The Social Outcomes Section complements the Financial Section, where you will project the financial outlook.
Social outcomes are the change or benefit to society achieved from the social purpose business. Generally in the outcomes-measurement field, outcomes are client focused. However, in the context of a social purpose business, the concept of outcomes measurement has been expanded to include programmatic or organizational outcomes. Social outcomes should be quantifiable, and are measured against a target, and then evaluated over time to determine if the goal was met.
Nonprofit organizations are often asked by funders, boards and other stakeholders to quantify their achievements. The same holds true for social purpose businesses. Investors are interested in the double bottom line. Thus, performance is not solely evaluated on financial performance but also on the social outcomes that have been achieved. The Social Outcomes Section describes your social outcomes goals and your system to evaluate performance.

Tracking Your Outcomes
Does your organization track and measure its social outcomes? Do these outcomes inform your management decisions? Performance Measurement & ManagementSM (PM&M) is an outcomes-tracking system designed specifically for social purpose businesses. There are four parts to the PM&M process:
Articulating Your Outcomes: the Logic Model
PM&M's logic model is a graphic representation of how your organization's resources and activities will lead to real-world benefits. It can be very useful for describing your business to investors.
Give Directions: The Action Plan
An action plan is used to guide your business planning process. It coordinates tasks, assigns responsibilities, and specifies due dates.
Measuring Performance: Targets and Indicators
PM&M can help you measure and evaluate your organization's ongoing performance using targets and indicators.
Management
PM&M provides techniques for day-to-day and long-term management of the organization's activities.
